What WAYR is

WAYR (“where”) is a local discovery platform that helps you find events, restaurants, cafés, hidden gems, museums, trails, nightlife, and family activities near you. WAYR is operated by WAYR Technologies LLC and is currently in private beta. By using WAYR you agree to this policy.

Location information

WAYR asks for your approximate location (city or ZIP code) to surface relevant local content. Here is exactly how it is handled:

  • Your browser may prompt for precise GPS location. If granted, WAYR converts it to a city name using a reverse-geocoding lookup and immediately discards the raw coordinates — they are never stored.
  • The city name you choose is saved in your browser’s localStorage only, so the app remembers your last city between visits. It never leaves your device except as a query parameter in API requests (e.g. ?city=Chicago).
  • WAYR’s servers never log or persist your precise location or IP address in a way that can be linked to your identity.
  • You can clear your saved city at any time by pressing “Change city” in the app or clearing your browser’s local storage.

Email addresses

WAYR collects your email address in two situations:

  • Newsletter signup — if you subscribe to the WAYR weekly newsletter, your email is stored in our database and used solely to send you that newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying “unsubscribe” to any email.
  • Community event submission — if you submit a local event, your email is used to send you a one-time verification link and to allow our moderators to contact you about your submission. It is not added to any marketing list unless you separately subscribe to the newsletter.

Email addresses are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

Analytics and tracking

WAYR does not currently use third-party analytics services (such as Google Analytics). Basic server-side request logs (method, URL path, response code) are kept for up to 30 days for debugging purposes. These logs do not contain IP addresses, email addresses, or personal data.

Advertising and Google AdSense

WAYR may use Google AdSense to display advertising only in a designated Promotions & Services area. As of the effective date of this policy, advertising is not currently live, and WAYR has not enabled Auto ads or Google ad placements.

If WAYR enables Google AdSense, Google, its affiliates, and authorized third-party advertising partners may use cookies, similar technologies, device identifiers, IP address, browser and device information, and information about interactions with the site or advertisements to serve, measure, limit the frequency of, and help prevent fraud in advertising.

Depending on your consent and applicable law, Google may serve personalized advertising based on visits to this and other websites, or non-personalized/contextual advertising. WAYR will honor applicable consent choices and Google’s required controls before enabling advertising for users in jurisdictions where consent is required. Google’s processing of information is also governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

You can manage Google’s use of information for personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. You may also review available industry opt-out choices at NAI Opt Out and YourAdChoices. Opting out generally changes the personalization of ads rather than removing all advertising.

Cookies and storage

WAYR uses browser localStorage to remember your city preference. The app may use a service worker to cache assets for offline use — this cache contains only static app files, not personal data.

WAYR is not currently intentionally serving advertisements. If Google AdSense is enabled in the future, Google and its advertising partners may set or read cookies and use similar identifiers or technologies for advertising, measurement, fraud prevention, and frequency capping, subject to applicable consent and privacy choices.

Content accuracy

Events sourced from Ticketmaster and other verified platforms are labelled “Verified Event.” AI-generated suggestions are labelled “AI Recommendation” and may not reflect current hours, prices, or availability. Community-submitted events are labelled “Community Submitted” and are reviewed before appearing publicly. Always confirm details directly with the venue before travelling.

Content correction or removal

If you believe a listing on WAYR contains inaccurate information, your personal data, or content that should be removed, please contact us at hello@wayrwe.app with the subject line “Content Removal Request.” We will review and respond within 5 business days.

Data security

WAYR uses HTTPS for all data in transit. Email addresses and submission data are stored in an encrypted PostgreSQL database. No payment information is collected or stored. API keys and secrets are stored in environment variables and never exposed in client-side code or logs.

Children’s privacy

WAYR is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted information, please contact us immediately.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of WAYR after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
